Texas is known for both its size and its heat.  With several months being constantly hot and humid, it’s no wonder that Texas is home to the largest indoor pickleball clubs.

With its cool vibes and vibrant entertainment scene, there is no doubt pickleball is making a splash here.  There are lots of outdoor courts sprinkled into other venues and some some centers.  There are also a few indoor places including:

  • Dreamland in Dripping Springs. These courts are actually outside, but they do have a number of covered courts which helps with the sun and other weather so we’re counting these as partial indoor. It’s a playground complex with mini golf, sculpture garden, live music (of course this is Austin), cornhole, croquet, and disc golf.
  • Hill Country Indoor in Bee Cave.  This is a large athletic complex with fitness studios and facilities for just about every sport.
  • Austin Parks and Recreation: there are indoor pickleball courts inside recreation centers at Dittmar Recreation Center, George Morales Recreation Center, Gus Garcia Recreation Center, Montopolis Recreation and Community Center, Northwest Recreation Center, and South Austin Recreation Center.

Dallas is winning the prize for some of the best indoor facilities.

  • Chicken N’ Pickle in Grand Prairie: There are six indoor and four outdoor pickleball courts. But the fun does not stop there. They also have cornhole, ping pong, lifesize battleship, bocce ball, and giant jenga. They also have a large and tasty food menu and beer and wine for dinking and drinking. Chicken N’ Pickle has grown and now has multiple locations with more planned openings coming.
  • Chicken N’ Pickle in Allen.  This location is coming soon.
  • Chicken N Pickle in Grapevine.  Another one of their locations to play and enjoy food and beverages.  Play includes outdoor shuffleboard, cornhole, ping pong, battleship, and jenga.  The Grapevine location has three indoor courts and six outdoor courts with some covered.
  • Pickleball Kingdom in Dallas.  This location is coming soon.  Pickleball Kingdom is a franchise with plans to open new locations in Dallas.

This very large metro area is also characterized be being very hot and humid in the summer.  This is a perfect location for indoor facilities.

  • PALA Pickleball: Currently, the largest indoor Pickleball club in Texas (but we are sure with the competition amongst the Texas major cities, there’s a bigger one bound to pop-up).  There are 11 indoor courts. They also offer 8 outdoor courts.
  • Chicken N Pickle:  Now a multi-location company focused on offering fun play activity with food and drink.  The San Antonio location has six indoor and four outdoor pickleball courts.

Washington, the birthplace of pickleball, is home to many sport devotees but places to play have fallen behind per capita.  With chains and franchises going strong in the southern states, the Pacific Northwest needs to catch up.  With the near year-round rain, the sport is better played with some shelter. The state is prime for more facilities.

  • Volli Bellingham: currently the largest pickleball dedicated facility in the state of Washington.  Features 7 pickleball courts as well as cornhole, darts, shuffleboard, and golf simulator.
  • Bellingham Athletic Club features indoor courts on the gym during select hours.

In the Seattle metro area most of the indoor courts are part of community centers.  This means the court is likely a shared gymnasium. It also means many of these are just now becoming available again after being closed during the pandemic.
